180, 200, or 220? Which is the right size for my cat(s)?
The answer to this question is incredibly simple: Large! "Large" refers to a large inner diameter, not height or a high rim.
Unlike most other suppliers, we at Albanine & Knuffl are of the opinion that a diameter of 15 cm or even just 13 cm is not sufficient at all.
Rather, we believe that various criteria determine the size of a cat bowl. Our Cat Bowls for Cats® naturally take this into account.
The first thing to consider here is the length of your cat's whiskers (on each side). This is because whisker stress, which is extremely unpleasant for your cat, should be avoided at all costs! For example, a smaller cat with long whiskers will need a larger Cat Bowl for Cats® than a larger cat with short whiskers.
Therefore, for our size recommendation, we divide whisker length – the length of your cat's longest individual whisker – into three ranges: up to approximately 7 cm, between approximately 7 cm and approximately 9 cm, and over approximately 9 cm. We offer the appropriate plate size for each range.
Range up to approx. 7 cm whisker length: All 180 cm plates and the 180 cm drinking bowl.
Range between approx. 7 cm and approx. 9 cm whisker length: All 200 plates and the 200 drinking bowl.
Area over approx. 9 cm whisker length: All 220 cm plates and the 220 cm drinking bowl.
Another criterion is the question: How many portions should fit in the container, and how large are the individual portions? This, of course, also depends on various factors, especially the question: How often will the food be fed?
Of course, only you can answer these questions. The following quantities of high-quality wet and dry food fit into our Cat Bowls® :
180s : 40 to a maximum of approx. 380 g solid (fine to coarse pâté), 405 g pieces in sauce or 260 g dry food
200s : 40 to a maximum of approx. 535 g solid (fine to coarse pâté), 585 g pieces in sauce or 380 g dry food
220s : 40 to a maximum of approx. 760 g solid (fine to coarse pâté), 795 g pieces in sauce or 540 g dry food

The number of feeding places is naturally a very difficult topic, as there are about as many feeding philosophies as there are cat owners. One could, of course, argue: It's easy: use as many feeding places as you have cats plus one for the drinking bowl. But unfortunately, it's not that simple. The considerations in "Feeding Behavior" and "Feeding Recommendations" are crucial for your personal answer to this question.
Albanine & Knuffl generally recommends: Please ensure that the space is adequate, with a buffer. You can always leave a space empty. Quite a few of our cat-loving customers opt for the 6-pack premium silicone mat for just two cats. Better safe than sorry.

The 180 version is perfect for cats with slightly shorter whiskers (up to approx. 7 cm whisker length). The 200 version is ideal for cats with medium-length whiskers (from about 7 to about 9 cm whisker length) and a 220 ensemble is the first choice for cats with long whiskers (over about 9 cm whisker length).
