How big should a good cat plate for cats actually be?
The answer to this question is incredibly simple: Large! "Large" refers to a large inner diameter, not height or a high rim/side wall.
Unlike most other suppliers, we at Albanine & Knuffl® are of the opinion that a diameter of 15 cm or even just 13 cm is not sufficient at all.
Rather, we are convinced that various criteria form the benchmark for the size of a cat plate. Our Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plates for Cats) of course take this into account.
The first thing to mention here is the length of your cat's whiskers (per side). The following applies: the extremely unpleasant Whisker stress for your cat should be avoided at all costs! For example, a smaller cat with long whiskers needs a larger Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plate for Cats) than a larger cat with short whiskers.
That is why we divide the whisker length – the length of the longest individual whisker of your cat – into three ranges for our size advice: up to approx. 7 cm, between approx. 7 cm and approx. 9 cm and over approx. 9 cm. We offer the right plate size for each range.

Another criterion is the question: how many portions should fit or how large are the individual portions? This in turn depends on various factors. In particular on the question: how often is the food fed?
Of course, only you can answer these questions. The following quantities of high-quality wet and dry food fit into our Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plates for Cats):
180s: approx. 40 g to a maximum of approx. 380 g fine to coarse pâté, 405 g pieces in sauce / chunks in gravy or up to 260 g dry food
200s: approx. 40 g to a maximum of approx. 535 g fine to coarse pâté, 585 g pieces in sauce / chunks in gravy or up to 380 g dry food
220s: approx. 40 g to a maximum of approx. 760 g fine to coarse pâté, 795 g pieces in sauce / chunks in gravy or up to 540 g dry food
Last but not least, the third criterion is the number of cats eating from it at the same time. For an undisturbed eating experience, ideally only one cat should eat from a Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plate for Cats) at a time. You should therefore provide enough plates for several cats. Experience has shown that the rule of thumb should be the same as for litter trays: number of cats + 1. If several cats are to eat from one Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plates for Cats), we recommend our ‘Pride of Lions’ pack plate with a gigantic 42 cm internal diameter. It is suitable for a pack of up to 5 cats.
