Or, how big should a good cat plate for cats actually be?

The answer to this question is incredibly simple: large! 'Large' refers to a large inner diameter, not height or a high rim/side wall.

Unlike most other suppliers, we at Albanine & Knuffl® are of the opinion that a diameter of 15 cm or even just 13 cm is not sufficient at all.

Rather, we are convinced that various criteria form the benchmark for the size of a good cat plate. Our Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plates for Cats) of course take this into account.

The first thing to mention here is the length of your cat's whiskers (per side). The following applies: The extremely unpleasant whisker stress for your cat should be avoided at all costs! For example, a smaller cat with long whiskers needs a larger Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plate for Cats) than a larger cat with short whiskers.

That is why we divide the whisker length – the length of the longest individual whisker of your cat – into three ranges for our size advice: up to approx. 7 cm, between approx. 7 cm and approx. 9 cm and over approx. 9 cm. We offer the right plate size for each range.

Range up to approx. 7 cm whisker length:

Another criterion is the question: how many portions should fit or how large are the individual portions? This in turn depends on various factors. In particular on the question: how often is the food fed?

Of course, only you can answer these questions. The following quantities of high-quality wet and dry food fit into our Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plates for Cats):

180: approx. 40 g to a maximum of approx. 380 g fine to coarse pâté, 405 g pieces in sauce / chunks in gravy or 260 g dry food

200: approx. 40 g to a maximum of approx. 535 g fine to coarse pâté, 585 g pieces in sauce / chunks in gravy or 380 g dry food

220: approx. 40 g to a maximum of approx. 760 g fine to coarse pâté, 795 g pieces in sauce / chunks in gravy or 540 g dry food

Last but not least, the third criterion is the number of cats eating from it at the same time. For an undisturbed eating experience, ideally only one cat should eat from a Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plate for Cats) at a time. You should therefore provide enough plates for several cats. Experience has shown that the rule of thumb should be the same as for litter trays: number of cats + 1. If several cats are to eat from one Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plates for Cats), we recommend our ‘Pride of Lions’ Pack Plate with a gigantic 42 cm internal diameter. This is suitable for a pack of up to 5 cats.

And should a good drinking bowl be just as big?

The answer to this question can only be: yes, just as big! That's why there is only ONE size selection for the set. This determines the size of the Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plates for Cats), the Trinkschalen für Katzen (Drinking Bowls for Cats) and, logically, the size of the Premium Silicone Placemat.

And why should a good drinking bowl be just as BIG as the Cat Plates for Cats?

'Large' refers to a drinking bowl with a large inner diameter and the largest possible volume. However, the rim/side wall should not be too high. Unlike other suppliers, we at Albanine & Knuffl® are of the opinion that neither a diameter of 15 cm or even just 13 cm nor a volume of 300 ml is sufficient.

We are convinced that a good drinking bowl must also take your cat's whisker length into account. This is because whisker stress, which is extremely unpleasant for your cat, should also be avoided at all costs when drinking! As a general rule, a smaller cat with long whiskers needs a larger drinking bowl than a larger cat with short whiskers.

A compromise must be found. An inner diameter that matches the length of your cat's whiskers, the largest possible volume to keep it fresh and an overall height that is still acceptable from the cat's point of view. Our Drinking Bowls for Cats are available in various sizes accordingly.

But what size should the corresponding placemat be?

The size, i.e. whether 180, 200, 220 or 420, depends on the size of the Katzenteller für Katzen® (Cat Plate for Cats) and Trinkschale für Katzen (Drinking Bowl for Cats) used (see: size advice cat plate / size advice drinking bowl). For a size 180 dinnerware ensemble, select size 180 for your Premium Silicone Placemat. For a size 200 dinnerware ensemble, select size 200 for your placemat. And so on and so forth. This ensures that all distances, such as the distance from the edge of the plate to the overflow edge, are optimised for your cat.
