Unlike most other suppliers, we at Albanine & Knuffl are of the opinion that a diameter of 15 cm or even just 13 cm is not sufficient at all.

Rather, we believe that various criteria determine the size of a cat bowl. Our Cat Bowls for Cats® naturally take this into account.

The first thing to consider here is the length of your cat's whiskers (on each side). This is because whisker stress, which is extremely unpleasant for your cat, should be avoided at all costs! For example, a smaller cat with long whiskers will need a larger Cat Bowl for Cats® than a larger cat with short whiskers.

Therefore, for our size recommendation, we divide whisker length – the length of your cat's longest individual whisker – into three ranges: up to approximately 7 cm, between approximately 7 cm and approximately 9 cm, and over approximately 9 cm. We offer the appropriate plate size for each range.

Range up to approx. 7 cm whisker length: All 180 cm plates and the 180 cm drinking bowl.

Range between approx. 7 cm and approx. 9 cm whisker length: All 200 plates and the 200 drinking bowl.

Area over approx. 9 cm whisker length: All 220 cm plates and the 220 cm drinking bowl.

Another criterion is the question: How many portions should fit in the container, and how large are the individual portions? This, of course, also depends on various factors, especially the question: How often will the food be fed?

We believe that even a good drinking bowl must take your cat's whisker length into account. Whisker stress , which is extremely unpleasant for your cat, should be avoided at all costs, even when drinking! The general rule is: A smaller cat with long whiskers needs a larger drinking bowl than a larger cat with short whiskers.

A compromise must be found: an inner diameter that matches your cat's whisker length, a maximum volume to keep food fresh, and an overall height that's still acceptable from a cat's perspective. Our drinking bowls for cats are available in various sizes accordingly.

Decades of experience, hundreds of tests with dozens of cats, and discussions with cat specialists and cat owners around the world have led to the following conclusion about drinking bowls: It should be large, reasonably flat, and above all, it should be one thing: made of glass. So, transparent – ​​that's what cats love when it comes to drinking. We can't tell you why. At most, we could speculate. But we'll leave that to others. We'll content ourselves with this conclusion: Transparent is the first choice for most cats when it comes to liquid. The size, i.e. whether 180, 200, 220 or 420, depends on the size of the Cat Plate for Cats® and drinking bowl for cats used (see: Size recommendation for cat plates / Size recommendation for drinking bowls ). For a size 180 eating utensils/drinking bowl ensemble, select size 180 for your premium silicone mat . For a size 200 eating utensils/drinking bowl ensemble, select size 200 for your mat. And so on and so forth. This ensures that all distances, such as the distance from the edge of the plate to the overflow edge, are a perfect fit for your cat.

The number of feeding places is naturally a very difficult topic, as there are about as many feeding philosophies as there are cat owners. One could, of course, argue: It's easy: use as many feeding places as you have cats plus one for the drinking bowl. But unfortunately, it's not that simple.
